Anastasia Markidou works as an associate professor at The Department Of Photography and Audiovisual Arts (School of Applied Arts and Culture, University of West Attica). She holds a PhD in History and Aesthetics of photography (University of Westminster, United Kingdom). Since 1990 she has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions, in Greece and abroad. She has been invited to work and exhibit in situ from UK Projects and was commissioned to produce photographic work for the Delphi cultural Centre and Skopelos Photographic Centre. Her work forms part of the collection of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography and the Museet For Fotokunst, Brandts Klaedefabrik (Danmark). She also works as an independent curator and editor.
Her publications include the monograph Constructions (2009) which was distinguished as one of the best photo books of the year by the Photo Book Festival in Kassel, Germany and the theory essay Photography: Critical Readings (2015). In 2018, she was appointed by the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography (2018) to curate the group exhibition SelfImages and edit the accompanying publication.
